TEAM X Status Report #4

Day 4: Today was the final day of all the hard work in the Team X project. My level of confidence that I had for our egg to survive was high, I actually thought the we could've survived the first round. But I can't tell the future, so once we got to the final drop as we got ready and heard the signal we let it go but sadly it didn't survive. The egg got a small crack once it hit the ground. This happened because the capsule fell side ways onto the egg, not only that but we didn't have any shock absorbers to minimize the shock when it hit the ground. Also the parachute didn't work in that first round as much because the height was so short air resistance wasn't that useful. But overall it was a fun and informative project (Team X 2016) Egg drop   ( Video ) Group Photo

TEAM X Status Report #3

Day 3: The part the I have found the most challenging in our team X project is, finding what we are testing for when we are doing our test egg drop, and seeing how well our capsule works without the real egg inside. Some of my predictions for Tuesday the final day of the drop are that the egg with survive the first 2 final drop trials, but its might not have a likely chance of surviving the last one. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1v6eijmRmyTlSpR2bXQx34N1z0FU0zNdA5A

TEAM X Status Report - Day 2

Meaning of Air resistance: Slows objects down when falling, because air is pushing against an object to slow it down. Air resistance plays a big role in our project because it's what's slows down the landing of our egg capsule so it doesn't have a big hard impact  once it hits the ground. Day 2; Today we tested our egg capsule for the first time!! Some things that went well while testing was that our egg stayed in place in the small nest that we made out of pipe cleaners, this is used to support the egg and cushion it so once the capsule hits the ground the egg will have a smaller chance of breaking. Next class we are planning on adding more padding to the egg so it is more cushioned when the energy is being transferred from Potential energy to Kinetic energy. For this change of energy we have also added a parachute to slow down the landing so it doesn't have a big impact once the kinetic energy is at 100%.  One thing that hasn't gone very well in our proje...

Team X Status Report- Day 1

Target : Try to land the egg inside its box safe from high above ground, while aiming for the target “ X marks the spot”.   Today Maren, Sami and I finished sketching our final draft of our team X project. We also finished doing the list of materials we will need to build our team X Project, and we started to buy some of them to start our model. Our ideas are to use a parachute to slow down the landing using a garbage bag and string, but this idea is still to be decided by our team. To support the egg we want to use a couple of pipe cleaners that rap around the egg inside the box, and to protect the eggs we will use paper and stuff it inside the box. Our biggest challenge is going to be the amount of tape we use, and the materials if they are strong enough or if they will work well with our plan, and lastly the budget that we have using the least amount of money but still having a successful project. Goals for next class are to finish gathering all our materials and ...
